Harry Slade Harry Slade
My name is Harry Eruera Slade and I am a painter living and working in Fife, Scotland. I am half Scottish, having lived in this country all of my life, and I am also half Maori, through my mothers side of the family. The middle name Eruera is a Maori name which means Edward.
I like to think of myself as being New Zealand by birth right and Scottish by life style. Or just as being a “Kilted Kiwi.”
In my paintings I mostly use oil and acrylics. I sometimes paint landscapes or seascapes, but mainly I paint tribal images inspired, not just by traditional Maori artwork, but by art seen in other cultures from all around the world.
I also get inspiration for my paintings from the organic textures and patterns seen in natural materials such as leaves, trees, and rocks. I often sketch or photograph natural materials and scenery on the Fife beaches and in the local countryside. In fact I can often be seen in most types of weather out and about sketching in fields or on beaches.
The work that you see here has been inspired by two visits I have made to New Zealand in recent years.
During these visits I was deeply moved to learn about my own ancestral roots first hand when I met some of my Maori cousins, Aunts and Uncles; around two hundred on the last count.
It was during these visits to my many relations that I learned a little about the myths and stories of Maori folklore, and encountered a rural life style set in beautiful semi tropical countryside. These experiences have inspired me to both, continue studying Maori history further, and encouraged me to express new feelings and sentiments about my own identity through my art work.

Marc Simon,im August 1960 geboren, hatte 1979 in London sein erstes Atelier und erste Ausstellungen. Seidem entstanden jährlich Ausstellungen im In- und Ausland. Anfang der 80er Jahre lernte er bei dem englischen Surrealisten Brain Dunes die Herstellung und Verarbeitung pflanzlicher und mineralischer Farben nach Rezepturen aus dem Mittelalter.
Intensive Studien auf den Kanarischen Inseln Ende der 80er Jahre vervollständigten seine Farbskala.
1981 gründete er mit anderen Künstlern in London die Künstlergruppe "Junkchild", in der Straßenkinder und Strichmädchen in Kunstprojekten eine kreative Perspektive fernab der Straße finden konnten. In den letzten Jahren entstanden enge Kontakte zu Künstlern aus der ganzen Welt zur Realisierung verschiedener Projekte.

Der forschende Naturwissenschaftler zeichnet ein unpersönliches Bild der Welt, das ganz absichtlich ohne gedachten Sinn bleibt und uns über den Ursprung und Ablauf des Lebens aufklärt, ohne auf die Freude und Sorgen des Menschen einzugehen.
Im Gegensatz dazu verkörpert der schöpfende Künstler eine Antithese, nämlich die ungebundene Verherrlichung der menschlichen Subjektivität, die uns von der Tierwelt trennt. Und dies sich selbst bestimmende Ich-Bewusstsein, dass den Menschen von den gefühllosen Wirbeln der Allteilchen trennt, ist zweifelsohne einzigartig.
So wird die Kunst des Künstlers zum Ausdruck des Begehrens, das fühllose Nichts, über das Sichtbare hinaus, ein schöpferisches Ganzes entgegenzusetzen.
